Well that was a surprise... A rain-shortened walk around the river at Knaresborough left us back at the car with a whole Sunday afternoon still to kill. After a bit of a scratch around google maps we realised we were only 30 minutes away from York, which Pepi had heard was worth a visit.

A short drive later, and after solving the usual parking conundrum (legal/cheap/close - not easy to combine in England), we were outside the ancient city walls of York. We entered through Petergate and were immediately enchanted by the city with Roman roots and a Viking past.
